Everyday Inclusion: Welcoming Neurodivergent Guests
Thursday October 15, 2026 4:15pm - 5:00pm CDT
Libraries are for everyone, yet many neurodivergent individuals—particularly those with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)—can face barriers that make library visits challenging. This session explores practical, realistic ways libraries can create more welcoming and supportive experiences for neurodivergent guests and their families.

Participants will gain a foundational understanding of autism, how sensory, communication, and predictability needs may impact a library visit, and how small, thoughtful adjustments can make a meaningful difference. Through real-world examples and actionable strategies, attendees will learn how to foster inclusive environments, support positive interactions, and build confidence in serving neurodivergent community members.

Whether you work in public, school, or academic libraries, this session will provide tools you can immediately implement to make your library a place where all guests feel welcomed, supported, and included.
